THE FEIYANG (BL58) AND HEMORROIDS
There is limited research on the use of acupuncture at Feiyang (BL58) for the treatment of hemorrhoids. However, some acupuncture practitioners may use this point as part of a larger treatment plan for hemorrhoids.
In traditional Chinese medicine theory, Feiyang (BL58) is believed to be located on the bladder meridian and is associated with the function of the bladder and lower back. It is also thought to have an effect on the digestive system, including the large intestine.
One case report published in the Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 2012 described the use of acupuncture at Feiyang (BL58) for the treatment of a patient with hemorrhoids. The patient received acupuncture at Feiyang (BL58) and other acupuncture points, as well as Chinese herbal medicine, and reported significant improvement in hemorrhoid symptoms.
While this case report suggests that acupuncture at Feiyang (BL58) may be a useful addition to a larger treatment plan for hemorrhoids, more research is needed to determine its efficacy and safety as a standalone treatment for this condition. As with any medical treatment, it is important to consult with a qualified healthcare provider before trying acupuncture or any other complementary therapy for the treatment of hemorrhoids.
